企業の組織形態と市場への参入の関係のお話

昨日もミクロ・ゲーム理論セミナーに行ってきたので、その内容について。

講演者は法政大学の武智先生。石川先生の大学生の頃からの知り合いらしい。また、博士の時にUBCにいたらしい。

演　題　：　Firm Organizational Heterogeneity and Entry Behavior in　the Pesticide Market (with Keizaku Higashida)

＜ abstract ＞
Through the use of Japanese pesticide market data, we examine the effect of firm organizational forms on the decision to enter the market. Because of historical factors, Japanese pesticide companies vary in their organizational forms in several respects, such as being either stand alone or diversified, having vertical integration or no integration, and being related to special distribution networks or having no relation in this regard. Our empirical results show that there are significant effects of organizational heterogeneity on entry. If a firm is stand alone, it tends to enter the pesticide market. The reason is that, unlike chemical or pharmaceutical firms that are diversified, stand alone firms do not have other ways of raising revenues. Furthermore, if a firm has a special distribution channel through Zen-noh, which is the head office of Japanese agricultural cooperatives, it is likely to enter. It is possible that firms having a capital relationship with Zen-noh acquire more information on farmers than other firms.

日本の農薬製造産業についての実証を行っていたが、どうやら、この産業が特徴的な企業組織形態をとっていることが理由らしい。

ここで言う、組織形態というのは、住友化学のような上流工程から下流工程まですべて自らまかなう農薬製造業者と、原料を化学メーカから買い、下流だけを専門に行う様な企業の違い、経営多角化をしている場合とそうでない場合(農薬製造のみ)、JAの資金注入を受けているか否かの三点の違いで、これらがどの要に参入行動に影響を与えているかと言うことを分析していた。
